One of my biggest regrets in my young career is not reaching out to [Doctor Yessis] for assistance earlier. His knowledge of the biomechanics of movement are second to none. He has opened our staff's eyes to a different form of training, specialized exercise. The simplistic nature of the movements does not limit the amazing carry over to performance. I firmly believe that the implementation of many of Doc's methods have been a definitive factor in our post-season run.
Dr Yessis is absolutely unique in that he is able to marry the theoretical science and practical application to not only evaluate and critique running technique, but also to develop a comprehensive training protocol to enable the athlete to fully exhaust their genetic potential.
"I would have done anything to have a copy of [Explosive Running] while running track at UNC-Charlotte. It would have kept me injury-free during that time." Mike McCandless Unlimited Nutrition
It may interest you to learn that with your assistance, Frank broke all the distance records at his high school and is one of the only three individuals in his district to qualify by time for all three distance events at the state track meet. As you remember we believe it is your help that he qualified early in the season. Later in the season we now know he was running with a stress fracture in his foot that ultimately fractured at the state meet. The foot broke before he could complete his last race but not before he placed in both the 1600m and 1800m races.
I finished reading your book Explosive Running, and I liked it even better than Explosive Basketball Training, which was already a great book! The thing I liked best was how detailed and straightforward the explanations of running technique were together with the pictures. It gives you a complete understanding of running technique and if you think about the explanations for yourself they make perfect sense. Thus you understand the role of each muscle and joint action much better which helps with programming the training. One outstanding chapter I really enjoyed and learned alot from was the one explaining technique errors and how they can be corrected. This is something that will optimize program design skills since you can find out a particular athlete's strengths and weaknesses. This was one thing I was looking for but haven't found in any other books.
What really captured my attention about your training methodologies is just how pro-active you are in trying to break down so many of the harmful paradigms that exist in this industry. Like coaches and specialists not seeking to share their wealth of knowledge to benefit their respective peers and athletes but rather try and keep it a secret.
My son needed to rebuild his throwing motion after reconstructive elbow surgery. I asked Dallas Cowboys strength Coach, Mike Woicek about Dr. Yessis. Coach Woicek heralded the work and results of Dr. Yessis. In short, he said 'If you have a chance to work with Dr. Yessis- take it'. I did and he saved my son's career and helped him earn a college scholarship in football.
I have used Dr. Yessis football and explosive running exercises with my nephew and I am having great success with him. I have learned a lot about training from Dr. Yessis. He has really opened my eyes on training.
I used Dr. Yessis methods with my entire team. I have never seen a program get these great, remarkable results team-wide, particularly with such efficiency. As an example, here's some of results: We cut 1/4 second from the team average in the 40; Increased standing broad Jump by 9" per leg; squat increased 120 lbs; Bench press Increased 140 lbs; an increase in body weight of 15 lbs. And remember, these are averages for the entire team.
I have a .600 batting average by following the Dr. Yessis method and doing Dr. Yessis' specialized strength exercises. The hits are line drives and I have not struck out once-which has been fun!
Michael Yessis, a professor of kinesiology, takes a scientific approach to running. He isolates individual phase of the running stride, illustrates good form and common errors with stop action photography, and presents flexibility, strength, and explosive exercises that enhance the learning and improvement of technique. He makes technique changes easier. An excellent Troubleshooting section in his book Explosive Running, link common form errors to specific exercises that will correct them.

I want to report the results im having with training with the Dr. Yessis system. In the long jump, the boys went from 19' 5" to 22'3”. They went over 22” in one season. In the triple jump, there was an increase from 33' to 44'.
The remarable fact is that it is their first year out for track. We still have two weeks to go . Just get Dr. Yessis' book and equipment and apply the principles. Have fun and jump out of the pit.
The technique changes I have witnessed Dr. Yessis accomplish with athletes in a single 90 minute session far surpass that of what most “experts” could accomplish over an entire season. And the results that the athletes achieved after using the Dr. Yessis method are remarkable. He is truly the nation’s authority in technique and sports training.
Doctor Yessis is single handedly the most brilliant mind I've met in the field of Kinesiology and Sports Performance. Through his frame by frame analysis of my punching technique, he was able to develop a program that helped me separate my hips and shoulders in the perfect sequence. Sweet Justice, my punching power has to have tripled, just from separating my hips from my shoulder! Doc is really a genius and I'm certain I'll become UFC champion, because of his training methodology.
There are few other people who have been of as much value to my life as Dr. Yessis. In addition to providing me with the answers to most of my lifelong questions regarding athletics. Through his work, Dr. Yessis set a standard for level of workmanship, the type of accuracy you want to achieve, as well as openness to criticism. Over the course of his life, the level of expertise Dr. Yessis has reached in his field, has been so developed, that you can say this is someone very special, this is a man who has been a great teacher in every way.
